I'm reading a book about USA now "U.S.A. - Customs and Institutions" and it's pretty easy and interesting. The leaguage is simple cause it's written for students who learn english. Once, I tried to read Stephen King's book called "Full Dark, No Stars", but it was too hard. I understood only some parts.

Walk to remember.

I saw the movie first, then read a book. I'm a little bit disappointed. There's many inaccuracies, some parts were missed in movie, some of them have been changed.
All in all, I enjoyed it. I'm really into stories which are like my own.

I haven't read any book in english yet, I once tried, but it turned out too difficult. But I want to finally read something and here I have to ask you: What can you recommend to me? I mean something easy, for good beginning :D. I like criminal/thiriller and adventure books (especially about sea, sailors, pirates etc), and in that subject area I would like to stay :). Thanks in advance :)

Well, long time ago I started, as far as I remember, with third part of Harry Potter series. Then it came to Tolkien's LotR, but I managed to go through firs part only. Since then I've read like a dozens of books in English, but mostly course books. It's still somehow difficult to go with fiction. For example, I've tried Nabokov's Lolita, but it was so damn complex in linguistic level that I gave it up after several pages.

I tried read the last of Harry Potter's book when it came out, but it was a complete disaster. Though, when I came back to it recently everything seemed so easy. True, I still didn't understand every word, but at least I knew what was going on. After that I haven't really had an occasion to read another book in English, though I use that language for the most time when I'm on the Internet.
Also, well it's not really a book, but I'm starting an audiobook. It's a challenge.

Hi everyone. I haven't finished any book in english so far because it's too hard for me (there are too many words I don't understand and it's not comfortable to translate every word, that I don't understand, into polish). However I love reading books in polish - now I'm going to read Pas Deltory because I got it from nakanapie.pl and I have to write a review. Except that, I've just finished second tom of the australian serie "Tomorrow" and I'm going to read third part as fast as it's possible.

I rather read books in english for a couple of years now. And I do think it's often better in this language than it's poorly translated versions in polish. Like, for example 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' - I hated it as a child, when I read it in polish, but recently I've got it in english version and its much better. I even started to love it. It's much more deeper, its more eloquent, the metapfhors are well done and it has a lot different meaning for me now. So yes, I prefer to read in english. As I finished my studies of english a few years ago - that's my best way to keep in touch with this language.

I saw many of you resigned of reading in english, because of wrong book.
So, here are my tips for beginners in this kind of reading:

If you really want to start read like that and you're afraid your english is not enought to understand - try with easier one. Not the Harry Potter or Prachett, where more than half of the words are invented by author. Or Memories of a Geisha, where a lot of words are in japanese. Or Shakespeare, who writes all his works in old english. Try something light, like, I dont know, maybe some paranormal series for youngsters like 'The House of Night' by P.C Cast and K. Cast or 'I am number four' by P. Lore.

If you are just about to begin, and you know your english a little bit more - try to find an audiobook version of your book. Try to listen how the words are pronounced. Sometimes, for some people it helps to understand.

And if you really want to read a book in english, and you know that there is a polish version of it, get yourself (from the Internet for example) this polish version, and when you'll read the english one, and you won't know the meanings - you can always check in the polish one.
